How Multidisciplinary Revit Files Work Together

12 th June 2023

An architect creates the initial design model in Revit Architecture and sends it to structural and MEP engineers.

The MEP and structural engineers will transform the architectural model by including features relevant to their specific discipline. The structural engineer inserts beams, trusses and columns, and the MEP engineer adds ducts, pipes and electrical connections.

Once complete, the MEP and structural engineers will send their respective models back to the architect. The architect will link the models of each discipline into its architectural model.
Autodesk Authorised Training Centres (ATCs) offer training courses in Revit Architecture, Revit MEP and Revit Structure. Each training course teaches the following:

Revit Architecture Training Course – create detailed, lifelike and accurate 3D architectural models

Revit MEP Training Course – create MEP models in collaboration with multiple disciplines

Revit Structure Training Course – create realistic concrete and steel structural models
